The red paste has the smoothness of a creamed cheese, the (added) flavor similar to a curry - with entirely different herbs. Price AUS$3.60 at a famous, cafe-style restaurant in Taipei's Ximen area.
Usually it is ordered when wine is being consumed, the waiter said.
Maybe only drunks eat it.
