Sometimes I go outback for a complete contrast to the sea, inspired no doubt from my watching an popular movie called Northern Safari made by my good friend Keith F Adams of Perth. W.A.
Western Australia has petrol stations every 250 km or so. This picture shows the greatest distance I've seen between such necessary stops.
A small reminder of how vast Australia is.
On occasions I've driven ten hours without stopping for more than a few minutes, such as Mt Isa to Darwin. On another occasion when driving through extreme heat all day I had heat stroke and became light-headed and 'spacey.'
With bush fires everywhere around me in the night and surreal rocks approaching Mt Isa it was almost hallucinogenic, a strange feeling. Best to have a second driver on those long trips.
Arriving Mt Isa late at night I pulled into in a church car park for sleep in the car. The reverend later approached my 4x4 with extreme caution, I imagined. He was happy to let me stay there after determining what and who I seemed to be.
