03/06/2009: "FORMOSA (TAIWAN) PROMOTION VIDEO"
I'd been home just three weeks. Seeing this video made me feel like returning soon. The singer is known as A-mei - the top female vocalist. She's sings here not in her Taiwanese language but in Mandarin Chinese (which was the compulsory language during the cruel martial law era, 20 years ago).
A hint of the world-wide hit song by Enigma is not accidental - it's originally a Taiwanese tune.
For decades Taiwanese was a forbidden language during the terrible times of martial law, which ended 20 years ago.
Skindiving and spear fishing was not allowed during martial law. Therefore Taiwan has a good future potential to learn this craft. A high rainfall means the coast has murky water most of the time. The offshore islands are the best bet for good visibility.
The ocean water off Orchid Island (on the SE corner of Taiwan) would be ideal for marlin, swordfish and blue sharks. A strong current runs south. Closer inshore is Green Island where scuba and snorkel diving is being catered for. Reef spear fishing should be discouraged.
This may be an even better version with different scenes.
